More than 40 Pakistanis are feared dead after a migrant boat capsized near the Moroccan port city of Dakhla in Western Sahara. The boat, which was carrying 80 passengers, set sail from Mauritania on January 2, 2025, heading for Spain’s Canary Islands. After 13 days at sea, Moroccan authorities rescued 36 survivors, but 44 others, mostly from Pakistan’s Punjab region, are believed to have drowned. Pakistani leaders have expressed condolences and called for stronger efforts to combat human trafficking. Authorities are working to support the survivors and locate the missing individuals.
