US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to block legal actions against American companies accused of foreign bribery under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). This decades-old law bans US firms from bribing overseas officials to secure international business deals.

Trump claimed the move would increase US economic growth and global business competitiveness, stating, “This will bring significantly more business to America.” The White House criticized the FCPA’s enforcement as “too broad” and “unclear,” arguing it harms America’s international trade opportunities.
Trump has long opposed the FCPA, calling it a “terrible law” and claiming it puts US firms at a disadvantage in global markets. His administration has also ordered a review of past and ongoing FCPA cases to establish updated corporate compliance guidelines.
Critics warn this decision could weaken anti-corruption efforts and damage America’s reputation in fighting global corporate corruption. Supporters argue it will strengthen US business expansion by reducing regulatory barriers.
